Dashain tika
Dashain Tika
Dashain Tika is one of the most important rituals of Dashain, the biggest Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal. It is performed on the tenth day of Dashain, known as Vijaya Dashami, which symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
On this day, elders put a mixture of rice, yogurt, and red vermillion (abir) on the forehead of younger family members as a tika. This tika is considered a blessing for good health, long life, and prosperity. Along with tika, jamara (barley shoots grown during Ghatasthapana) is also placed on the head.
Family members gather together, exchange blessings, and receive Dakshina (money or gifts) from elders. It is also a time when relatives from far and near reunite, strengthening family bonds.
The tika ritual continues for five days, allowing people to visit the homes of relatives and receive blessings. Culturally, it represents love, respect, and unity among family members and society.
👉 In short, Dashain Tika is not only a religious practice but also a symbol of togetherness, blessings, and harmony in Nepali tradition.
