Overcoming the meaning of life

The meaning of life has been debated for a long time and I guess the conclusion that people have settled on is that the meaning of life is determined by the individual. This could be a dedication to serving their god or country. It could be helping others as much as possible whether it be family members, friends or strangers. It could be becoming as successful as possible whatever success is to them. It could be making the most out of everyday, experiencing all good things life has to offer and being grateful for the time you have on this world.

Well to me life is a challenge. I imagine to anyone reading this can agree that life is challenging in various degrees. You may think you have one limitation and once you overcome that everything will be smooth sailing after. Fortunately it is not so simple and soon enough something else will rear it’s presence in your life creating some kind of blockage some kind of limitation. And guess what you have to do, or forever remain stuck, you have to overcome, continuously.

The fact life is here at all on this ball of rock flying through space is nothing short of spectacular. How life evolved and adapted to overcome the various laws of physics to not only survive but to flourish. The fact that even we, as an individual, are here right now is the luckiest sequence of events imaginable. We are the product of many generations of parents who made the correct choices, the parents that overcame and survived the wars, famines and the wild elements. It is astounding the odds of us as us actually being here right now.

So when we think about what something is, how to define and make sense of something we need a past reference. A reference to anything, maybe past knowledge or past experiences, without some kind of reference nothing can have sense made of it. This leads to my argument or opinion if you will and are easily triggered, of what life is about what is the meaning of life if any at all. Because past defines future, past and future is the universe and from the past until right at this moment countless things had to be overcome.

Overcoming. This is the meaning of life, to overcome. From the begging of time to the point where you are right now I can guarantee youve had to overcome some kind obstacles in your life much like everything and everyone else had to do before you to bring you here to this moment. Think of everything you have done personally to get here, you overcame various illnesses you’ve overcome challenges such as schooling or learning how to swim or drive, you’ve had to overcome various fears you’ve had or still have. You had overcome exams or job interviews. You might have had to overcome negative addictions or overcome being over weight or being to skinny. You have had to overcome various disputes with family friends or co workers. The list goes on and on.

The market for self help is huge and what it all comes down to is always you overcoming something so you can be truly satisfied. And that is the secret sauce, your secret receipt to life, the real self help. We want to be satisfied in life but satisfaction is not indefinite. When you think back to times in your life when your the most satisfied, coming from my own experience, it’s always when I’ve completed some kind of challenge or overcome something that was difficult and worth doing.

Once you have overcome everything in your life at a particular certain point in time you need to add the next challenge, another obstacle of your choice and each time you do this you grow as a person, becoming stronger, more knowledgable and more experienced, a better version of yourself. The beauty in perfection is that it doesn’t exist and this means that we never need to stop, we can always be growing in one way or another. Now if you don’t chose your challenge and what is next to overcome, life will anyway give you obstacles by itself and it will, however it is best to take control of your life and it’s direction as much as possible and I suggest to chose your challenges as much as you can. Now not every challenge or obstacle might have a defined start or finish for example one challenge for me is to be more consistent whether that be with my writing or my physical work outs, so the challenge is to be less lazy and more consistent, this is a continuous and indefinite long term challenge to overcome. You tackle this challenge with smaller obstacles in between, for example I will write for 30 mins or hit the gym everyday. I want to lose half a kg every month until I reach my goal, I will lift so much kg today or run so many Kms.

The more you think about it the more you realise, this is life, life is about overcoming and when you realise this and start putting your mind to it I know, and you should too, that you will overcome anything you want and even if you don’t overcome everything at least you tried and that still makes you a better version of yourself. Stop reflect and get ready, it’s time to overcome what life has to offer and this is what life offers best.
