That Writer's Block Workout

The Writer's Block - that group running the contest I'm going to enter my first chapter in - has some practice workouts. I want to be a better writer so I tried one.

I'm new at this whole Steemit thing, so I'm not sure I'm doing this right.

The assignment said:

PROMPT: 100-ish words of a phone /device conversation in third person limited. There must be some sort of conflict or emotional engagement.

MY ENTRY:

It had been twenty minutes since he'd heard from her. It was all he could do to stop himself throwing the phone across the room.

Larry: Are you going to answer me or not?

Five minutes, ten, the tension set his head on edge.

He’d been waiting for this all day, all week, all month. This unsure moment between satisfaction and disappointment was killing him.

Jenny: I told you, give me a few minutes!

He waited, unable to take his eyes off the screen.

Jenny: Okay, we have two tickets left for the Barbie convention. That will be $200.

I wanted to make the texts italics but I don't understand how.

@honeypotbadger, the workouts are done in our Discord channel. We have them Saturdays at 8 p.m. EST and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST. We'll add more times if people need them. We also don't post our prompts on the blockchain. They're exercises, not for publication. Occasionally, someone will submit something really outstanding, and we'll spend time as a group editing and polishing it until it's ready to be seen by the public. I encourage you to join our Discord and workshop with us any time.

What's Discord? I'm having enough trouble figuring Steem out. You mean I have to learn something else to enter that contest? The contest says to post them here.

The workouts aren't part of a contest. For the contest, you post the link to a polished first chapter on our post about it. The link can be to a Steemit post or a Google Doc. The workouts are completely separate. They are not judged in any type of competition. We do them as a group, in voice and text chat. Here's the link to our Discord server. welcome to Steem @honeypotbadger ... if you are not yet on Discord, you really want to download the app and join it. There are some great communities on there where you can get help learning the platform.
