India's Mahindra Owned Pininfarina Unveils 1900-HP Electric Supercar 'Battista'

It's not often an electric car captivates your attention if you are a petrolhead. But personally I love innovation in the automotive sector and in the past couple of years have really opened upto the possibility that electric cars are here to stay and are our future.

Luxury car designer Pininfarina, a Indian Mahindra group company has unveiled 'Battista,' a hypercar producing 1900-hp. Now Pininfarina is largely known for car designs and not for 'making' them.

However, with the Battista it hopes to change the narrative and become a manufacturer of an iconic hypercar and Mahindra & Mahindra (which own controlling stake in Pininfarina) is likely to ensure that manufacturing aspect goes smoothly.

Rimac, a Croatian e-hypercar manufacturer is providing the powertrain for the Battista which I think is just excellent considering they also showcased the Rimac Concept Two with 1900 hp and it seems as though the Battista will use the same powertrain, maybe with some changes incorporated to suit its specific needs.

One of the things that I really liked about the Battista is the design. It looks so beautiful on the outside but the inside is even more elegant. But it's the performance figures that takes the cake here. It does 0-60 mph in under 2 seconds.

It's 120 kWh battery powering a motoring in each wheel produces 1900 hp and pushing it to a top speed of over 350kmph or 217 mph. However, the best part is that Pininfarina says it has a range of 280 mile or 450 kms on a single charge of the battery. When did electric hypercars become so practical?

Certainly there will be aspects to this car which may not be that great however I'm sure potential owners will overlook it as they race to grab one for themselves at a heft price tag of $2.50 million. There will be only 150 units built to maintain exclusivity.

The automotive industry is heating up with new all-electric entrants in many segments of the industry but it seems as though some of the supercar manufacturers are starting to take charge and lead by example.
