There once was a barn where a boy ran into his sister with the news that someone had caught a rabbit out her window. The girl was the one who knew what that meant more than anyone else, so she told them all.

Then one day a stranger came by and picked up her sister with her rabbit and gave it away.

That person was a boy. He picked the rabbit up just as the stranger's sister was closing the windows on the barn. She didn't hear him enter until later with the news about the cat. The neighbor, her daughter-in-law, and the man to whom she was returning home were all suspicious. The rabbit was taken to someone else's house where its owner, a guy named Billy, was waiting. The neighbor's daughter-in-law, a kid from the nearby town, noticed a rabbit somewhere in her yard, got a knife, and killed it. The neighbor and her daughter-in-law told authorities they didn't call authorities. That was all they needed.

The police finally got in touch. They tracked down the neighbor's daughter-in-law and her daughter- in-law's best friend, and they talked things over at first, but then decided to go with the girl's sister's explanation. Then police took a look at the neighbors' story.
