The Dairy Game : My Experience During IT Placement at Hotel (22-9-2025)
INTRODUCTION
My Industrial Training (IT) placement in the hotel’s bakery unit was a truly rewarding and insightful experience that broadened my knowledge in food production and hospitality. As part of the hotel’s food service department, the bakery unit played a vital role in ensuring that freshly baked products were always available for guests and events. From the very first day, I was introduced to the environment, the equipment, and the importance of hygiene and safety in food handling. This gave me a sense of professionalism and responsibility in my daily tasks.
During my placement, I was actively involved in several stages of production. I learned about ingredient measurement, dough mixing, fermentation, shaping, proofing, and baking. I also observed the use of both modern and traditional baking equipment, which helped me understand how technology can improve efficiency without compromising quality. I assisted in preparing pastries, cakes, bread, and other confectioneries, gaining practical knowledge of recipes and techniques that are essential in large-scale baking.
Another important aspect of my training was learning how to maintain proper standards of cleanliness, packaging, and presentation. I realized that in the hotel industry, the appearance and freshness of baked products are as important as the taste. Teamwork was also emphasized, as I worked closely with professional bakers and other staff members who guided me through the processes and encouraged me to build confidence in handling tasks independently.
Overall, my IT placement at the hotel’s bakery unit gave me hands-on experience, improved my technical skills, and exposed me to the professional demands of the food and hospitality sector. It not only deepened my passion for food production but also prepared me for future career opportunities in food science and technology.
