The diary game, 15/03/2025 : A Visit to the Dentist: Yahya and Iskandar's Experience

One sunny morning, I decided to take my children, Yahya and Iskandar, to the dentist because of a problem that was starting to bother Yahya. He had a decayed tooth that hadn't fallen out yet, and despite our attempts to clean and care for it, it was blocking the growth of the new tooth that had begun to emerge underneath. The trip was stressful for Yahya, but he wasn't alone in this confrontation. Iskandar was ready to turn the situation into a funny adventure.

We arrived at the clinic a little before our appointment, and the waiting room was quiet except for the sound of the television, which was playing some documentaries. Yahya sat nervously, looking around with worried eyes, while Iskandar watched his brother as if preparing to carry out his secret plan.

It wasn't long before Iskandar began performing funny stunts to break the tension. He imitated the dentist's serious manner of speaking, using his deep voice and jokingly told Yahya, "Don't be afraid. They'll implant a gold tooth for you, and you'll be able to bite through anything, even iron!" This made Yahya laugh in spite of himself. He then continued imitating patients opening their mouths in an exaggerated manner, which also made some of the waiting patients laugh.

At another moment, Iskandar put his brother's hat over his own and walked in a formal manner, holding a pen as if taking notes on the patients' conditions. These childish gestures, despite their simplicity, made Yahya feel more at ease, and he began to forget his fear of the procedure.

When it was Yahya's turn, he took a deep breath and gathered his courage before entering the doctor's room, the dentist greeted us with a warm smile and began to examine the damaged tooth, after the examination she confirmed to us that the decayed tooth needed to be extracted so as not to hinder the growth of the permanent tooth underneath.

The instruments were prepared and sterilized, while the doctor tried to reassure Yahya that the matter would be quick and painless, but he remained hesitant, causing me to gently hold his hand and encourage him, luckily the doctor was competent and it only took a few moments to extract the tooth.

After finishing, the doctor held the tooth between his fingers and placed it on a white cloth, and showed it to Yahya, who looked at him in amazement and said, “It used to live in your mouth, but it no longer needs you!” the doctor said with a laugh, making Yahya smile proudly as he successfully completed the experiment.

We left the examination room, and Yahya was still holding his cheek, amazed by the new sensation after the tooth extraction. Iskander greeted us with a big smile and said, "You're a champion now! " Then he took out a candy from his pocket, but withdrew and said, "Oh, you can't eat it now, but I'll celebrate it for you!" He laughs mischievously.

After a few minutes of rest, the doctor talked to us about oral care after extraction and advised Yahya to avoid eating solid foods for at least a day and to be careful to rinse his mouth gently.

This visit was more than just a dentist appointment, it was a lesson in courage and adapting to new situations, Yahia learned that facing his fears was not as difficult as he thought while Iskander showed that difficult times can be full of laughter if you look at them from a different perspective.

We left the clinic proud, Yahia courageously undertook his adventure and Iskander was able to make this day an unforgettable experience. Now we have a baby molar as a souvenir of this special day, and memories full of laughter and brotherly warmth.
