How often should I see a Chiropractor?

I am commonly asked "how often someone should see a chiropractor?". My simple answer to this is that's up to you and your body to decide, but there is a level of chiropractic for everyone.

Chiropractic has and continues to be used as a pain based care, at least initially, by most of the population. The reality itself is Chiropractic is based on the premise (reasoning) simply that if a nerve or nerves become irritated there function will be altered (what ever that is) but in a negative way leading to "dis-ease" (not necessarily disease) or disharmony in the body and this then leads on to a cascade of events, which in many cases can then lead to pain. i.e. Pain is the last element to appear. Therefore it would make logical sense to address any potential issues before they have time to build to pain. Therefore logically it could be argued chiropractic can be seen as a preventative to dysfunction and consequently pain.

Many of our patients do in fact present with pain and we must first identify why they are in pain, and if we can help. If we can then we undergoing a schedule of care to achieve this outcome. Many patients also, in fact near enough all, do not want their pain to return so we look at a retaining and strengthening program to assist this health aim.

However health does not stop at chiropractic, it is multifactorial i.e. there are many factors involved. As I say to all my patients if you drink excessive volumes of alcohol, smoke like a chimney and do no exercise it does not matter how much chiropractic care you get you are leading for a fall in the future. We must respect our body and get rest and time out, as well as drink plenty of water (and less tea and coffee) if you want the best. Just in the same way you take care of a car, especially an expensive car, you should think of your body as even more important. The irony is most people take better care of their car or even iphone better than they do there own body.
