Deadly disease spreads rapidly "rocket" in Africa # ... and WHO: Urgent threat to humanity

Lhasa fever spreads rapidly in Nigeria, prompting scientists to describe it as a "missile" spread, which has killed 110 people so far.

Nigeria's death toll rose 22 percent in a week, confirming global health officials that this was the worst outbreak of the deadly disease, the Daily Mail reported.

Health officials said Lhasa fever kills about 24 percent of infected cases, called viral haemorrhagic fever.

The virus threatens many members of the body and causes damage to the blood vessels, a disease that is difficult to cure.

Symptoms of the disease include fever, headaches, tiredness, vomiting, sore throat, and bleeding from the mouth, nose or vagina.

In some cases, patients suffer from temporary deafness, as well as abortion of pregnant women. The disease is spread by rats or exposure to bodily fluids.

The spread of the disease in West Africa was announced by the World Health Organization (WHO), which was the biggest "urgent" threat to humanity.

Lhasa fever has emerged in Nigeria and other countries on the west coast of Africa, such as Liberia and Guinea.
