I was one of the Steemit Hack Victims, I didn’t get mad I got STEEM’ED! Part II

in #the-hack8 years ago

(I'm posting this for my friend @StreetStyle who was a victim of the Steemit Hack. His account has been frozen and asked me to share this to the Steemit Community)

First, let me thank @edreno for posting my first letter about this since my account has been on lock down. I also want to thank those who upvoted and commented on @edreno’s blog in regards to this letter, such as @bobbylee , @bitcoinmeister , @ned , @savagesteemit @blocktraedes and many others.

I am following up on my letter since I see some of you had questions in regards to the hack and what is currently going on.

Unfortunately for me, as one the 250 or so Steemit Hack victims, I am Unable to access my account. Fortunately for me and the other victims, Ned and the Steem Team were alerted to the situation early, and more importantly reacted and contained the breach quickly. So my funds are still there in my wallet. You can see my wallet @streetstyle

So for now I am content in introducing Steemit to everyone I know. I preached about Bitcoin as soon as I heard about it back in 2013. And now I am a Steem fanatic. I have this strong sense that Steemit is going to be the next driving force towards introducing cryptocurrencies to the masses. And so now I am on this mission to introduce Steemit to just about everyone I can.

Earlier today I received an email from Ned and steemit.com. Steemit is fully functional and working normally for all users, except for those that were breached like mine. (to read what happened to my account see @edreno ’s blog with my letter he reposted for me). For those that were breached, they are currently working on creating special logons for us in order to prevent the theft of our funds by those hackers. Currently, the phenomenal growth of Steemit has kept the Steem Team quite busy.

Once again, this is a good time to re-iterate to all online users, especially those with valuable accounts, to practice good online password security. With today’s processing power, 8 letter passwords are no longer safe. For best practices, you must use upper and lower case letters, numerals and symbols.

So for now, I must wait before my account is unlocked. For all of the lucky Steemit users who can still post,

FULL $TEEM AHEAD!! ======> www.steemit.com

ps. I want to thank @savagesteemit for posting this story for me since my account is still locked out, & @edreno for posting my first letter.

I also want to thank Ned and the rest of the team at Steemit for keeping us informed of the situation.

Hey Guys, I am back. Thanks @edreno and @savagesteemit for posting my letters in the meantime. Thanks @Ned and Steemit

I am impressed with how resilient the core users of this community are and dedicated to the platform. Every media site has the potential to be hacked and the more popular it becomes the larger the target on its back. One difference however is the great account recovery system that has been implemented and since this is the first social media site on the block chain, it is transparent to all users so hopefully victims of any future attacks can have their accounts restored to the rightful owners quickly. Hope you are back up and running and thanks for spreading the word about steemit.

Thanks for your comment! Let's keep the movement going

Yes I feel a few features are critical before many users feel at home including notifications and a way to see the feeds of only your favorite posters. That being said, for a beta product this has far exceeded my expectations. The curation needs some tweaking and users should be limited in the amount of posts until they reach certain levels of steem power, but I'm sure the devs are working hard and improvements will soon be rolled out. #cantwait

Ben, I agree that Steemit could use some improvements, but for the most part it is a phenomenal new site. It is a game changer. It has put twitter, facebook, instagram and other social media on notice.

For sure! I'm totally okay with the devs making money to and the whales. They keep this site ad free and you don't see Zuckerberg giving any money to its users. It will be interesting what demographic is that dominates the user base and what content people value the most in the future. I have read some really entertaining blogs and stories from users who are using this platform to educate and make money at the same time instead of just attempting for the latter

Did you get your funds back? I'm confused, as I'm still waiting on a refund @ned
