Wild Homesteading is a Minnow!

With my recent power up I jumped over the line and officially became a minnow! This journey started with my first post right before midnight on January 29th, 2019. Now 2 months and 27 days later I'm very happy to be sitting at over 500 SP making me a minnow!

I'm also excited that I was able to reach this goal before my daughter was born! She could show up anytime now so this goal had an unknown deadline! ;) Very happy to reach this fun goal!

I want to say thank you to everyone that has supported me since my introduction post. Recently, I was lucky enough to get help from @hitmeasap minnow-asap program and help from the @10kminnows community and I have been part of the Red Fish Power UP League for the last 5 weeks. Big shout out to @pennsif, @paulag and @steevc for all they do to help build the community here!

But my biggest thank you has to go to homesteading community here on STEEM. The entire community has just been amazing and really supportive since I first showed up. I really love being part of this community and I'm looking forward to continuing to grow with you all! Big shout out to the Homesteaders Co-op and the rest of the homesteading community!

There are so many other individuals that I have engaged with on here too and just know that I really appreciate what you all have done to help me and the community here on STEEM!

Tips for Current Red Fish

From what I have been told I have reached minnow status really fast compared to the average user on STEEM. So I thought that I would share a few tips based on what has worked for me.

I should add that so far I have not spent any money (USD, etc.) to grow. All my growth came from my actions on STEEM.

1. Be consistent in your postings. I post 5 days a week and take the weekends off. Once I started to hold to this schedule I noticed an uptick in my growth.

2. Come up with a certain themes/templates for certain days and use that each week. Every Monday I do a companion post for my weekly blog post (from my website), Tuesday I do a "Weekend Homesteading Report", and Thursday I do a "End Week Homesteading Report." This means I only need to come up with new ideas on Wednesday and Friday making it easier to keep up with my posting schedule.

3. Pick a niche and stick with it. Mine is homesteading by working with nature. Occasionally I branch into STEEM related posts (like this one) but the vast majority of my posts stick to my niche. This makes it easier to find your tribe and my view is that it actually results in more engagement and upvotes.

4. Write some meaty, high quality and engaging posts. Most weeks I have written this type of post that brings in $14+ in rewards which has been huge as a Red Fish. Last week I got one up at $49 which pushed me over the 500 SP line. These posts have gotten me Curie votes, some other big votes, whitelisted on ocd and a lot of new followers and engagement. You don't have to write these posts weekly but they can make you stand out in a good way.

5. And the big one... Engage with the community on STEEM in general and others in your niche. I try to always reply to comments people leave and I also try to leave comments on other people's posts on and off each week. Getting on Discord is a great idea too. I'm not great about hanging out there but it is a great way to engage with the STEEM community.

Bonus Tip: Look for contests and challenges to take part in. I have entered a few and even won a couple. They are a great way to engage with more people and the rewards can be a great boost. I also recommend looking for groups to partner with. I'm a contributor with @homesteaderscoop and even with just 1 post I have already gained more followers from it.

These tips are meant for someone wanting to grow on STEEM and grow quickly. While they work these tips are not easy and it can take up a fair bit of time. Wild Homesteading is a business and my time on here is an investment in that business. If I was just posting as an individual I would likely scale back and be fine with slower growth.

Moving Forward

I'm going to keep doing what I have been doing but I do have some new plans/initiatives. The first will start next week so stay tune!

Once my daughter is born I will likely decrease my posting rate for a bit while I figure my new schedule out but I plan to go back to my regular posting after I (hopefully) get into a pattern again.

In the long run I have my sights on becoming a dolphin so that will be my new long term goal. Time will tell on how long it takes me to reach that point!
