RE: How Trump won - The rise of artificial intelligence as a propaganda machine

in #technology8 years ago

Sorry, not buying this click bait shit. It's one thing to write a piece about AI used for propaganda. It's garbage to hop on the Trump hate wagon and connect 2 issues into some causation such as because AI propaganda, Trump became president. The fact is that for last presidential race, there are multiple facets that cause the switch between voters. A few are listed below (not comprehensive):

  1. The Democrat party forced Bernie out of the race despite the fact that he's a better candidate comparing to Hillary. There were many scandals indicating her connection to Wall Street money and big corporations. Polling was skewed purposely on many TV channels and news outlet to garner support for Hillary. This creates many malcontents in Democrats which makes most people stop voting and a few to vote for Trump out of spite.
  2. With Bernie out of the race, Hillary's focus on immigrant and minority which "alienates" Caucasian population, the group who is most actively voting - the struggling middle class and the average working men who taxation and divorce court had reduced them to almost slavery.
  3. Trump, despite his flaws and assholery, in the end is still a more charismatic speaker. His use of rhetoric and one liner, though a fallacy in arguments, resonates with the crowd more. Also, his words usage remains simple and easy to understand, which allows people in rural/less educated area to associate with him as a leader.
  4. On top of this is the Russian hacking controversy, which shows the potency of technology but there is no way indicative of AI as propaganda. It would show how propaganda can be used to sway the public in critical times, to the extend of changing from a guaranteed win for Hillary (with backing from big banks, Hollywood celebrities, outspoken activist groups) to "bad hair, small hands, misogynistic pig". If this means anything, it's that Russia is a force to be reckon with and Russian hackers are capable of influence world wide politics.

It's not garbage, it's Cambridge Analytica :) this is my opinion. For me, this is fact!

Alright, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I'm just going to agree to disagree.
