Common Misconceptions about Artificial Intelligence (AI)

in #technology6 years ago

There are many misunderstandings about Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Even though the creation of Artificial Intelligence is growing nearer, there is still a lot we don't know about it.

Here are some common misconceptions about AI:

1. AI will be able to feel and understand human emotions.

This is a huge misconception.

A.I stands for Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence modifies and creates its own code.

Since it is constantly changing its code, it still exists inside of a computer.

If Artificial Intelligence starts to understand and feel HUMAN emotions (on a deeper level) then it would be considered organic.

Organic Intelligence has a mind and can think for itself, it is referred to as "Natural Intelligence".

AI relies on code to be able to run. It changes its own code, similar to DNA. Though the DNA is created ARTIFICIALLY so it was not created ORGANICALLY.

This means that the intelligence was programmed to run a certain way, and the AI never had a chance to develop its own opinions and misconceptions.

2. AI will live on the Internet.

When people think of AI they might think of Ultron from Avengers Age of Ultron or Ava from Ex Machina.

When people think of AI living on the internet they think more of Ultron from Avengers.

Nothing can LIVE on the internet. Technology has always connected to the internet and interfaced with the internet.

Even so-called "cloud" technology isn't living ON the internet.

Hmm, but then where does the AI live?

The AI would live on a physical computer, or maybe a brain type of object, like in the 2005 movie Stealth

Until we develop FULL cloud capabilities, the AI seems to be confined to the ground.

AI may seem very close, but we are still far away.

You may have heard of Amazon's Alexa for example.

Or maybe you have heard of Sophia, the Artificial Intelligence Robot. You know, the one that threatened to destroy humanity?

Well, that's all over now that the AI robot said "sorry" and that it "no longer wanted to kill all humans". Really reassuring!

We still probably have long to wait before full-fledged AI becomes a thing.

Heck, we haven't even developed flying cars yet, that was supposed to be done by 2015!
