Internet of Things (IoT) Security

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Recently, the security lapses of The Internet of Things are in the news. Wikileaks also exposed that inter-connected devices are used to spy your secrecy. The microwave oven placed in your kitchen can also be used for spying, especially the camera placed in the oven can record your room movement and meetings.

Sometimes, you may not be aware of the devices you are using. It may be connected or controlled by a third person anonymously. Last year, the famous internet service supplier Dyn was badly attacked by hackers which resulted in the blockage of thousands of websites.

Below is the list of the 6 hottest technologies for IoT security:

  1. IoT Network Security:
The most difficult challenge is the securing and protecting of the IoT devices to the back-end systems on the internet. The wide range of protocols and standards rise the risk of security breaches. Firewall, AntiMalware etc are some of the important end point security system to avoid from unusual threats.

  2. IoT authentication:
Facilitating the users to authenticate a connected device, managing more than one user for a car, using of static password for authentication purpose, and also includes the facility of digital certificate and biometrics. All this process excludes human being working.

  3. IoT encryption:
The encryption of data from IoT device and back end systems is done by taking the help of standard cryptographic algorithms. Because of the unlimited IoT devices and hardware, the potential of the encryption process and protocols are suffered.

  4. IoT PKI:
The cryptographic key and life cycle potential, X.509 digital certificate, which also includes public and private key generation, distribution and management, are provided by the PKI. Sometimes, the hardware specs of IoT devices decrease the utilization of PKI.

  5. IoT security analytics:
The IoT security analytics includes monitoring, collecting, utilizing, and aggregating of data from IoT devices. Moreover, The IoT devices also provide actionable reporting and alerting of special activities. Beside all, The IoT security analytics will also be required to identify attacks and intrusions which are not detected by traditional network security.

  6. IoT API security:
The IoT API security facilitates in authenticating and providing data movement between the device and back end system. Furthermore, it also provides application by REST based APIs. The API security is considered to be necessary for data transferring between the edge and back end system, which only allows authorized device to be connected with the system.
