The Insane Graphics Card Shortage of 2017-2018...
So it is no secret there is a MASSIVE shortage of Graphics cards/GPUs since last year 2017, and into this year 2018.
As companies are putting together Strategies for combating this problem, we move into 2018 with an uncertain timeframe of a fix to this incredible issue.
If you want to build a computer, or upgrade your current PC with a new Video Card, you are basically out of luck unless you want to spend a small fortune.
It is Ironic that this shortage is caused by :you guessed it: (MINERS).
Bitcoin busted through $19,000 and the miners went insane buying up every videocard they could get their hands on.
This caused the entire market to basically be sold out worldwide, even huge retailers like BestBuy, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Newegg, etc had no stock.
Even if you find a card in stock right now the price is easily going to be double or even triple the MSRP!!!
Lets take a look at some of the most powerful cards on the market right now.
AMD VEGA
Notice the Vega64 was described as having a price UNDER $500 Dollars !!! Awesome for the power right?
Well thanks to this GPU shortage the price of the VEGA64 on average is a whopping ! $1,400+ Price...
NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti
Notice the GTX 1080Ti was described as having an MSRP or $699 Dollars!!! Awesome for the power right?
Well thanks to this GPU shortage the price of the GTX 1080Ti on average is a whopping ! $1,200+ Price...
This is insane!!! With no end in site...
So WHAT CAN WE DO ?
As someone who builds computers myself, I can tell you if someone wanted me to build them a gaming rig right now I would not be able to aquire a video card for them, at an affordable price.
The largest majority of people wanting a New Gaming Rig want the BEST they are not going to settle for a mid-range card or low end card for their PC.
Which Brings me to my next point even MID-RANGE cards are WAY ---OVERPRICED--- Example The Nvidia GTX1060
The GTX1060 which should retail at $249-$299 will cost your $479+
At $479 you are within $220 of the Top of the Line GTX1080Ti's MSRP!
I would recommend anyone wanting a New Gaming Rig - Buy a Prebuilt machine, by a reputable company.
I am not going to recommend any companies to you, as everyone's Brand Preference would come in to play and start a flame war about why this brand is better than that brand , and That is NOT what this post is about.
But by purchasing a Machine from a Company already assembled , you would get a Warranty, Customer Support, and Alot cheaper price as some Gaming PC's can be bought for not much more than these video cards are saleing for right now.
Figure a nice gaming Rig should cost between $1,500-$2,500 depending on your needs.
Now factor in the cost of a overpriced video card if you had to buy it yourself. at $1,200 or more.
$1,500 - $1,200 = $300
The price of a CPU can easily cost much more than $300, so building a machine yourself, unless you have access to cards at MSRP or below would just cost you ALOT of money for nothing.
I personally feel as Machines I build are superior to store/Pre-Assembled Machines, because I know every part inside my machine, and I like knowing that I assembled it myself, and I do not have to worry about another person or Machines skills in assembly, or lack there-of.
I hope you enjoy this Post, if you did Follow, and Upvote... If not Have a Nice Day Anyway.
Unfortunately, we can not find any graphics cards in stock.
This is main problem, Cards are simply out of stock, UNLESS you want to pay double or triple the MSRP. I see plenty of cards available at Super Inflated Prices, but as far as Buying a card at MSRP or below they are simply out of stock everywhere. This is a real problem, it is sad, and I do see some companies are trying to solve the problem by limiting the number of cards a person can buy , and also trying to sale more to Gamers, however implementing, and using these strategies I feel will probably fail.
Thank you for the information.
Your Welcome, I do see that the major Card Makers ARE putting out cards aimed directly at miners, with no inputs on them , they are for mining only, now if they can only supply the demand, maybe the gamers can get their game back on.
its very nice analysis. but graphic cards always atrract my attention also their high price upset me..
Most Gamers, and Builders think the MSRP is already high on the top of the line cards, but to see these price hikes really makes me feel sick. The demand is so high, and the supply is so weak, Card Makers are literally having to make cards just for miners, and if they cannot meet demand on normal cards, I do not see the special mining cards getting pushed out in the numbers that will make much of a difference for now.
