3 Relevant Tech Terms

My favorite class in grad school taught me the first two terms. You see it over and over again behind some of the most successful ideas and companies that have gained wide adoption. Something to think about within our emerging crypto world.

CRITICAL MASS (sociodynamics)

In social dynamics, critical mass is a sufficient number of adopters of an innovation in a social system so that the rate of adoption becomes self-sustaining and creates further growth. The term is borrowed from nuclear physics and in that field it refers to the amount of a substance needed to sustain a chain reaction. Critical mass is a concept used in a variety of contexts, including group dynamics, public opinion, and technology.

TIPPING POINT

The tipping point is the critical point in an evolving situation that leads to a new and irreversible development. The term is said to have originated in the field of epidemiology when an infectious disease reaches a point beyond any local ability to control it from spreading more widely. A tipping point is often considered to be a turning point.

EXPONENTIAL GROWTH

Technology Grows Exponentially. The doubling of computer processing speed every 18 months, known as Moore's Law, is just one manifestation of the greater trend that all technological change occurs at an exponential rate.
