Towards Cognition Technology

In a way, the popularization of LLMs really does indicate a shift in technology. It's not like IT is dead - but maybe it's being transformed into something else, maybe something we can call Cognition Technology.

"IT" was supposedly about managing information and how to communicate it, but for the most part it was just about managing data. It feels like this new thing is about managing the understanding of data, truly transforming it into information.

Similarly, CS wasn't about computers, it was about stuff that makes computers useful.

Mathematics begat Computer Science, Computer Science begat Information Technology, Information Technology begat Cognition Technology.
