You might wonder how a platform that facilitates funding of open source development projects can deliver value to a non-IT related field like Human Resources (HR). The answer to that question is surprisingly simple: data analytics.

FundRequest has information on two elements that are interesting to jobseekers and HR professionals alike.

FundRequest keeps track of:

  1. the issues being solved
  2. the people providing solutions to these technical challenges.

We believe combining these pieces of information in itself is already valuable as jobseekers accumulate a list of proven technical expertise, and recruitment agencies gain access to a more granular search tool. The goal is thus to enhance the matching process between HR professionals and developers. Moreover, our platform allows users to provide additional insights on their expertise.

A bit more technical

One example of additional information is the language field in GitHub. Each repository contains files and directories which determine the languages that make up the repository. The image below displays the language details of the ansible repository.

On our platform we use the language field of GitHub to label specific ‘technologies’ which are add to each funded request. These attributes can be used to search and filter funded issues so developers can easily navigate through the funded issues they are most capable to fix.

The combination of request, resolver and the technology allows us to get an overview of the amount of issues per technology, how many get resolved, the resolution time, how many people propose solutions, as well as other valuable statistics.
Another piece that can be added to the puzzle is geographical user information, which we collect from the user’s profile on the FundRequest platform and cross-check with the information on the user’s GitHub account. The resulting data set allows us to provide rank features, such as a ‘Top 10 of Java Developers in London’. From this point on, each attribute that is added to a user’s profile can act as a data filter. An interesting attribute would for example be if a person is open for new job opportunities or is willing to relocate.

Delivering value

By analysing our data and developing an API layer on top, we expand our product portfolio.

Below are just a few more concrete examples of how we can leverage our data to deliver value for HR service providers.

Data Query

Recruitment agencies can use our product to find ideal candidates for job vacancies. We offer them access to an updated list of technical experts based on their specific needs.
While sharing their level of expertise is beneficial to the user, FundRequest will never disclose any user information to any third party unless FundRequest users have given their explicit consent.

Targeted matching of companies and consumers

Our platform offers companies the ability to specifically target a certain audience to advertise and promote their products, job opportunities, services and events.

Profile enrichment

Users can benefit by sharing their FundRequest history to their social profiles, or use our data as a reference of their technical experience.

LinkedIn is the most obvious platform when it comes to sharing skills. LinkedIn offers the user the option to add a section on their profile describing their technical skills. It is good way for users to share their expertise, but the information is not backed by proven experience. Anyone can add just about anything.

Here you see featured skills and endorsements:

But LinkedIn could for example use FundRequest’s Data Analytics to increase the value of the skills section by including FundRequest-verified work.

Privacy

Privacy is an area we care a lot about, therefore each user is offered configuration options to decide for themself how much he is willing to share and to partake in.
