You can now quit your mobile network in a single text - new rules explained New Ofcom legislation means consumers can now switch by text - meaning you never have to speak to your supplier again
From today, Brits should find moving easier thanks to the introduction of Ofcom’s new switching legislation
Mobile phone customers can now switch their supplier in a single text thanks to new Ofcom rules that kick in today.
The regulator said anyone wanting to switch - and keep their number - will be able to do so by sending a free message to their network in just a few seconds, from 1 July.
That's instead of having to call their current provider to request a 'porting authorisation code' (PAC).
The new rules, announced earlier this year, will mean customers no longer have to deal with unwanted attempts from their provider to persuade them to stay.
It comes as Ofcom figures show nearly a third of switchers find it difficult to leave at the end of their contract.
Until now, switching between networks took an average of two working days - or 15.6 hours, according to figures by Carphone Warehouse.
In a poll it said 51% of people consider the experience ‘difficult’, accounting for the half of Brits that haven't switched in more than five years.
