The fallout from the Cambridge Analytica fiasco has done a great deal of damage to not only Facebook's reputation, but also its finances. In the short term, the social network can afford to take a hit on share prices, but in the longer term there is the trust of users to regain.

A survey conducted in the wake of the #DeleteFacebook campaign that followed revelations about the data breach and the logging of Android users' calls and texts, found that a surprising number of tech workers were ready to delete their Facebook accounts. 31 percent backed the #DeleteFacebook campaign, including 50 percent of Microsoft workers, and 38 percent of Google workers.

The survey -- conducted using the anonymous app Blind -- found that nearly a third of those questioned were planning to delete their Facebook accounts. In all, over 2,600 people were surveyed between March 20, 2018 and March 24, 2018, so it neatly took in the peak of the controversy.

I keep my personal Facebook account open for two reasons. First is that I work in internet marketing and sometimes need an account to manage a client's social presence and to be able to keep up to date on what they offer to marketers. Second is so I can make sure ex-girlfriends got fat.

While I've noticed less and less of my business involves using Facebook and I could probably setup a more anonymous sock account for that, it still doesn't solve the second use.

'Iceberg' Zuckerberg - nine tents of what he's up to is lurking dangerously out of sight!

I am just surprised it has taken so long for people to work it out. Facebook was never really a free to use service. You would have to be naïve to think it was. You paid to use it not with cash but something far more valuable by giving them access to your lifestyle and interests which was then used by marketers to bombard you with advertising they think will get you to part with your hard gained money.

Damn facebook is pretty nice as a all in one login nowadays, which is what makes this whole case worse. I heard Elon Musk deleted space X and tesla's pages as well.

Isn't look great for the zucc...

Hehe, yeah Elon unfriended Zuck. I think their relationship went sour after Elon blew up Zuck's satellite.

LOL. You might be right.

Yes, I did a post on that, screen shots and all of the deleted accounts... 2.5 million likes on each of the accounts. Pretty incredible.

Its unfortunately a way to keep InTouch with friends and family. I'll likely remove it from my phone. I too am in tech so it's difficult to just get rid of it and yet keep abreast of things.

Damned if you do, damned if to don't.

Damned if you do, damned if to don't.

hahaha best way to put it. I'm with you it's pretty difficult to just up and delete your facebook if you use it for regular updates on events, tech and just want to use that account to login to another website which is quite prevalant with facebook nowadays. Hopefully they will make at least some kind of small bounce back.

thanks for sharing this news....

I killed my Facebook account and you can too. I think something has a chance to grow with this but I dont have a clue as to what. People used to think FB was a cheap rip off of Myspace but it died in a heap.

Do I think that there will be a mass exodus to Steemit? I think probably not just because I don't think there is a large enough "street team" I see a massive echo chamber here saying that Steemit is going to the moon but did not see anything outside until the homestead bloggers started migrating here due to the hostile climate on other platforms. The platform seems like a cross between Blogger and Tumblr and Twitter.

Then now is an excellent time to promote steemit. Am I right? or am I right. Facebook is honestly the place i post pictures for my grandparents. Thats it, dont even scroll it anymore, fb messenger is more utilized then actual facebook.

#DeleteSteemit

haha I'm jk people relax please don't flag me lol. Anyways, Facebook has always been horrible.

@contentjunkie yeah bro you are right....
Thanks for information...I will delete my Facebook account as soon as possible.

No you won’t. People aren’t deleting. They will just tighten their privacy settings and this will blow over in a couple weeks. I rarely open fb nowadays so it’s just another app I don’t use or delete. It’s easier to ignore fix settings than deal with deleting. People rarely delete apps. Too much work.

Yup, @alakazam, I think you are correct. Too many friends and family are in my network... I honestly can't imagine that I would have kept in touch with them all had it not been for Facebook. sigh. Tighten up security, stop playing Facebook apps (maybe remove the phone app) and just use it purely to stay in touch.

Right on bro. These #deletefb dopes are full of shit. I hate everything fb stands for but me deleting the app won't hurt them one bit.
