2.4 GHz Vs. 5 GHz
These two WiFi's Just One Frequency Bands are seen in general or normal glance. But there is a different emphasis on separate band in WiFi technology. And the biggest difference between them is that of speed. 2.4 GHz band 600 Mbit / s and 5 GHz band support 1300 Mbit / s speed, but router classes are important!
2.4 GHz band is used in some wireless communications systems much earlier. Old cordless phone, bluetooth, some remote controls, even your home's microwave oven works in 2.4GHz. For those devices, the 2.4 GHz WiFi band can easily mess with the same type of signals to work in the same frequency. But there is also a benefit of it, the range of radio frequencies is its range but it is still intact. So, of course, it will give less speed, but it will be ahead of range with 5 GHz band.
Although 2.4 GHz signal drops a lot, Kenona's competition is much higher, but most WiFi enabled devices support 2.4 GHz. Today's modern laptops, smartphones, or tablets support 5 GHz, but still have more than 2.4 GHz support.
If you talk about 5 GHz, the 5 GHz band is a new frequency, since fewer devices use it, so this signal noise or signal dropping problem is much less. With its range too low, Kenona said earlier, the range decreases if the radio frequency is higher. But its speed is much higher, if you are in its signals, then you will be able to get strong speeds.
Dual band router / Tri-band router
Any modern routter that works using the WiFi 802.11 AC standard, is definitely a dual band router. The dual band router consists of a 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz band, meaning that the router can transmittle two separate channels at the same time. If your device supports 5 GHz band, it is connected to the Router's 5 GHz band and creates a fast-speed connection. Older devices work on 2.4 GHz band, which has a lot of speed but ranges much more. If you buy a single band router, then you may get a 2.4 GHz band, or 5 GHz, but the dual band router will allow you to use both of them together.
Tri-band router can broadcast three networks simultaneously. There are three separate bands here, rather than 2 to 5 GHz band and one 2.4 GHz band broadcast. If you have many devices at one go and you plan to spend a lot of heavy bandwidth on the network, such as HD streaming, gaming, large size file transfers, but of course a tri-band router will be good for you! So will I use a band?
Now the question is, which band will you use. See, if you have a router and if it is old, you can certainly buy a new dual band router, where the new 5 GHz band will give you high speed. If you have a dual band router, it would be better to connect 2.4 GHz to older devices or smartphones and to 5 GHz band with new drives.
If your router is away from the device, you can use a 2.4 GHz band for a better signal or range. If more speed or high bandwidth rate is required, of course, you can use the 5 GHz band. Now your device may support two bands, then think about it yourself, select the band accordingly, you need more ranges or high speed, accordingly.
