The Industrial Revolution, which occurred approximately from the second half of the eighteenth century, meant a series of technical innovations that had a definitive impact on society. Initiated in England, and quickly extended to the rest of the world, it meant the end of the rural economy, based purely on agriculture, and became the beginning of an industrial economy, characterized by important urban settlements.
