Amazon Just Unveiled a Warehouse Robot — Should You Be Worried?

in #tech22 hours ago

In recent years, people started getting worried that robots might take their place, and that AI could steal their jobs. But most thought this would only happen in tech-related fields. Jobs like warehouse work and similar stuff? That felt too human to replace. Well, I hate to break it to you — that’s not true.

Amazon announced last Wednesday that they’re working on a robot called Vulcan, and it’s going to operate in their warehouses. Now, it’s not going to take over everything — it’ll mainly handle the high-up shelves or the really low ones that require awkward bending and could hurt a human worker.
It’s going to work alongside the workers, not instead of them (well, for now — just some of them).

Amazon also said that even the people who were replaced — or more accurately, since the need for manual labor dropped — were trained in robotics and AI so they could monitor, manage, and even do maintenance on these robots.
So in a way, it's still kind of reassuring for now.
Because, yeah — as many jobs as tech will kill, it’s also going to create new ones.

But Amazon also made it clear: this doesn’t mean every replaced worker will get retrained.
Sadly, some people will lose their jobs, and soon.
Why? Because monitoring robots doesn’t need an army of people — one person for every ten robots might be more than enough.

In the future, when these technologies replace us, they probably won’t replace everyone.
There will still be humans needed for supervision or when something goes wrong.
It’s kind of like when email replaced inter-office mail. The mailman didn’t stop delivering to your house — but he wasn’t needed between companies anymore.

Anyway, we probably still have some time before we reach that full level of automation. And even then, it’s likely going to be limited to the big companies that can actually afford it, because it’s crazy expensive.

One thing that takes the shine off all this?
Turns out some of these robots that looked super smart aren’t really running on full AI.
They’re actually being remotely guided by workers in India who watch video feeds and label boxes with the right info. That helps the AI a lot.

So yeah, it’s still early days.

Now tell me —
Do you think AI and robots will ever replace you someday? Or are you already following the page and YouTube channel to stay ahead and save yourself before it’s too late?
