Retail Manipulations...

in #teamsouthafrica6 years ago

The retail industry is ruthless and they come up with all sorts of sales gimmicks to entice the unsuspecting consumer to support their brand over their competitor’s.

We have recently just had the best gimmick I have seen. My son will disagree with me, but for a change I felt drawn to it more than any other promotion in the past. He loved another promo a lot more that involved animal information cards and a book.

One of the biggest grocery retailers in South Africa - Checkers - recently ran a promo where you got a little seed pod for every R150 you spent. They included 8 herbs, 8 vegetables and 8 flowers in their selection. If you purchase for say R700, you will get 4 seed pods.

The other day I was like R23 short of getting another pod, so I felt compelled to spend the extra R23 by grabbing some chocolate bars for each member of the family…… I mean, how could I lose out on another pod?

By the end of the promotion, I had almost a full set of the variety they offered.... and off course I would get 6 radishes in the mix. I hate radish. Why couldn't I get lucky and get 6 cauliflower pods?

I am bummed that I didn't get the cool tray. Each time I went to Checkers they were sold out.... right from day 1.

The only criticism I had for this campaign is that they brought it out in the South African winter, when 90% of the seedlings need to be planted in Spring. I have kept them and can't wait for Spring! Winter and I have never been friends.

I am looking forward to seeing their next initiative.

I have the same problem, I am waiting for summer to plant them. I actually drove past the competition to spend money at Checkers and made sure I buy enough to complete a R150.00. The promotion ended to quickly for me, I was actually quite upset when I bought quite a bit of groceries only to realize the promotion was over, now I will be shopping at Pick and Pay again!!

I did the same, I even get vitality points for healthy food at Pick and Pay, and still chose to buy my fruit and veg at Checkers for that month. I have found that Checkers are cheaper on a lot of things, so I will be buying some things from now on from them. The rest will be back to Pick and Pay. I am very curious to see what Pick and Pay will do for their next Promo..... Hard to beat this though!

The one that gets me is( I hate Shopping), where ,just when you know where everything is kept ,they move it all around! I assume to have you look at other items?

Ok have around 50 and am disappointed to hear it ended. This is the only promotion I have ever thought worthy.

Thanks for this post :)

We have a few bags of the goodies. Must eventually get round to planting them however!!
Don't even know what I got
