Bonsoir a tous ! Good evening everyone :)

Wow..what a sight! The Cathedral of Saint Louis which crowns the Hill of Byrsa holds an impressive collection of Punic and Roman remnants. The entire complex of ruins is essentially like a history book!

The first imperial opponent who dared to face the mighty Romans to the very brink of defeat was one of the greatest military commanders in history, Hannibal The Conqueror!

However, in spite of the crushing victories over Roman armies in Italy, the war ended in Hannibal’s own country at Zama, North Africa after which Carthage loses its foreign sovereignty. The Romans returned to Carthage and built on its ruins a new Carthage resplendent with great Roman buildings, aqueducts, villas and colleseums.

Soon Carthage became the administrative capital of Africa, but today the ruins of both empires bare naked and laid open to the sun and to the wild flowers.

Stay tune for my next posting to the magnificent Roman Bath and the Great Acropolis !

Cheers:)
