Hold On or Let Go?

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)

As my first blog, I decided to delve more on the topic brought up by @maverickfoo on his Mini Motivation #17- What goals should you be quitting on? I shared with him a poem that I hold dearly and practice in my life entitled “Don’t Quit”. 5.png

Then, @maverickfoo posted a questions on any “time limit before pulling the plug”. Told him that there is none since it is entirely up to you on how far are you willing to go or sacrifice to achieve your goal.

Then, somehow I wonder whether it also applies in love or relationship? I have this difficulty in letting go. I personally felt that if you really love the person, you will be willing to fight till the end and never quit on the relationship. When I decided to be in that relationship, I am so stubborn and willing to shut everyone else who disapprove on the relationship even my own family, friend and relatives. They say love is blind but I beg to differ, because I know what I sign up for and I am willing to go all the way because I knew and have faith on that relationship. I hold on to the relationship as long as I could and keep motivating myself and told myself that all relationship has its up and downs. But when the relationship did not work out, I have a hard time in letting go or quitting. “We fight to hold on and we fight to let go” quoted from Mareez Reyes.

But, the more I think about it, then it occurs to me that you can’t control how the other person feels about you. You may be willing to fight all the way but in a relationship, it is not entirely up to you. A relationship will not work if the other person does not want to be in that relationship.

I am still trying to digest and apply the following quotes from Dr. Steve Maraboli which I am still torn in between letting go and move on. 2.png

I guess my heart never knew when to quit. Because like they said, “..falling in love is like jumping off the cliff, your heart said you can fly, while your head said you will fall to your death..”

And then again, I stumble across the following quotes which makes me back to square one and I don’t know whether I should quit or hold on. 1.png

In conclusion, @maverickfoo, I think for me personally, it does apply in love and relationship; on not quitting. That there is no time limit, since it is entirely up to me on how far I am willing to go or sacrifice to be with the person.

Gosh, all these quotations really make me confused on which one should I apply and believe on. I need help from all those who have been through it.

Hi @laineraine, congrats on your first post.

Sad to hear that your relationship did not work out, and I can imagine it's a pain you're still nurturing. I know you've tried your best, stayed true to your heart, fought again the expectations of others, and yet, it wasn't meant to be.

And it's ok, because it's better to have experience that end of the pool and live to tell the stories, than to never love at all.

In relationship, things are never easy because it's the connection between 2 people. Frankly, going up against yourself - like learning how to swim or hiking a mountain - is way easier, because it's only you against the odds.

Letting go sounds like a good advice. Just like the boy who reached into the jar to grab a fistful of candy, but couldn't get his hands out. Try as he might, he knew he had to let go of what he wanted most to free himself. Then he stood back, looked at the candies in the jar, and realised that if he tilted the jar, the candies would fall out. Such is the nature of life, until we free ourselves from the gloom of yesterday, we can't see the light of tomorrow.

Hope this helps, and have a nice weekend.

p.s. letting go is not always giving up. Quitting from one endeavour free you from the crutches, and enables you to succeed in the adventure that awaits.

Thank you very much for your words of encouragement, it really means a lot to me! I guess the following pictures best illustrate what you meant.

Duly noted and I will try to “loosen” my grip as a start. Well, it must be something to do with my personality I guess. It must have something to do with my simian lines. Well, please check out my 2nd blog on introduceyourself if you don't know what Simian Line is. Lol

You can make any decision as long as you can deal with the outcome. No such thing as wrong decision, is either right choice or lesson learned. Good luck and nicely written btw. :)

Thank you very much for the feedback.
