Diaries of an ice skater mom...#17... Pyeongchang ...we are here !!!
Finally... The long awaited day...we have arrived at the Olympic Village in Gangneung. For the uninitiated, the 2018 Winter Olympics is held in Pyeongchang , South Korea. Actually, there are 2 Olympic villages here - Pyeongchang ( mountain cluster) is where the snow sports athletes are housed and Gangneung ( seaside cluster) where the ice sports athletes are housed. So, we are in the Gangneung village.
Arrived at break of day in Incheon airport... smooth sailing through customs and luggage retrieval.....of cos, dedicated Olympic lanes helped!!
First of all, a photo at the mascots and rings are a must !
Then it's an almost 4 hours bus ride to Gangneung. We had the bus to ourselves ...so loving Korea.
But the fun stops there..... ran into a wee bit of problem at the Welcome Center upon our arrival.. And had to go to Pyeongchang ( another 45 mins car ride) to get accreditation and all the red tape done before we can do anything. Luckily the organisers and volunteers were ever so helpful and got us back on track ( another 45 mins car ride to Gangneung Olympic Village) ... but the hospitality is amazing ! That's why Korea is so awesome
Managed to take a little stroll to the Flag Plaza ( little stroll cos we were not dressed warmly enough and it was -11c ) . Still.... So happy to see our Jalur Gemilang flying proudly amongst the other flags.
Anyways, managed to get to our apartment by nightfall ( almost 12 hours after we landed !) . It was spanking new....simply furnished but comfortable enough. Loved the comforter on my bed !
Am writing this lying in bed and covered by that comforter... warm and snuggly feeling.
So good night, friends... tomorrow's practice session started at 9.20 !
Signing off in Gangneung....
