SLC | S22W5 : Teachers as examples and role models
Hello steemians,
I am delighted to participate in this competition offered as part of the Steemit Learning Challenge (SLC), Season 22, Week 5. This challenge highlights two fundamental aspects of the teaching profession: personal and social skills, it This is a valuable opportunity to reflect on my role as an educator, the impact of my personality on my students, and how my daily actions can inspire them and contribute to their overall development.
After understanding the course material, explain why teachers need to be examples and role models for students, and how much influence does this have on student behavior and character?
The importance for a teacher to serve as a model and example is immense, in Tunisia, the word "Master" evokes a deep respect and an implicit responsibility to embody the values that society expects, students, particularly the youngest , observe everything, their perception of education, their commitment and their behavior are influenced by what they see in their teachers, when a teacher arrives on time, respects his commitments and treats each student with dignity, he conveys subtle but powerful messages, this shapes their discipline, their respect for others and their desire to learn, for example, I noticed that when I demonstrate patience when faced with a student in difficulty, this encourages other students to be more supportive and tolerant, in short, the teachers shape citizens, and this responsibility must be taken seriously.
Each teacher has a different character and personality, name as many negative behaviors that you are aware of in yourself while teaching.
Like any human being, I am not perfect, and I sometimes recognize my own weaknesses, sometimes, in moments of stress or faced with a particularly agitated class, I can lack patience, this manifests itself by signs of impatience or a slightly higher pitch of voice, which can intimidate some sensitive students, I have also been known to become distracted by personal concerns, including using a telephone, which can cause impression to my students that I am not fully committed, although rare, I sometimes neglect my appearance on busy days, and I know this can affect my students' image of me, these weaknesses, although limited, are areas on which I am constantly working to improve.
Share with us examples of positive attitudes or exemplary behaviors that you have implemented in your daily life with students? What educational values are contained in these behaviors.
In my daily practice, I try to adopt behaviors that embody fundamental educational values, for example, I always show kindness in my teaching, when a student makes a mistake, I encourage them to persevere rather than highlight his failure, which strengthens his self-confidence, my respect for time is also an aspect that I take very seriously, I always arrive on time and I start each lesson with rigor, thus showing the importance of punctuality.
I also practice active listening by taking the time to listen to my students, whether for their academic or personal concerns, this gives them a feeling of validation and develops their self-confidence, finally, I am actively engaged in extracurricular activities such as the organization of educational competitions and collective projects, these moments help reinforce values such as collaboration, team spirit and creativity, while making learning more lively.
What benefits do you feel from the exemplary behavior you have shown so far, has it had a positive impact on the behavior and character of your students?
The exemplary behavior that I have adopted over the years has had positive repercussions not only on my students, but also on myself, the relationships I maintain with my students are more solid and marked by mutual trust, students feel listened to, understood and respected, which reinforces their commitment and motivation, I have also noticed that my students gradually integrate positive behaviors such as punctuality, discipline and respect for others, qualities which not only help them in the classroom, but also in their life daily, by cultivating a harmonious school climate, I was able to create a space where students felt safe enough to ask questions, express their ideas and invest fully, finally, the impact of my efforts was also recognized by parents, who often express gratitude to me for the positive influence I have had on their children.
After reading your post, I realized that you serve as an example for your students. You can be a better example and role model instructor if you can modify your negative behaviors, such as becoming angry, speaking in a high-pitched voice, ignoring your appearance, etc. Good luck in the competition.
