What teachers make and how is this compared with poverty threshold.

In an effort to make non-educators aware of what teachers' lives are like, I'm going to be posting some current facts about their lives. This will be a series of posts, so please have patience with me. I thought I'd start with salary. Below is a link to ZIPRECRUITER which lists the average salaries of teachers and how how that translates into hourly wages. When reading this, keep in mind that teachers' contracts are usually 9 month contracts, but many teachers take the option of having their pay divided into 12 months so they have money to live on throughout the summer months. So, when you hear someone say that teachers get paid during the summer months when they are not working, this is not exactly true. They have opted to take LESS PAY each month in order to SURVIVE during the summer.

This next link allows you to compare what teachers earn to the federal poverty thresholds according to the number of people in the household. While you soak up this information, I will be adding information that helps us all understand "life as a teacher."
