The tea diaries: Day 4 of 6.

I say old chap how about a bloody cuppa tea ?

Earl Grey and I go way back. In fact around the time one makes life altering decisions about what sort of tea they'd like to start the day with I became fed up with the PG tips gumboot style tea. As a young teen I jumped on the Lady Grey / Earl Grey train. And I must say I fully embraced the journey into the royal bergamot gardens. But this isn't a tea that tugs at your beard like some crazy baby. You have to brew this for some time if you want some extra hairs on ya chest.
I once read on a box of Earl Grey tea bags ( during my amateur tea drinking days) that Earl Grey had been around since the mid 1800s and it always had a sort of royal emblem on the box. As a young shaver growing up in the UK there was a sense of ' this is the royal choice ' if it's good enough for the queen then I can ave a go. So to really get into this tea I'm listening to the original 1981 broadcast of " the royal wedding " Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer.

But wait. This isn't exclusively British royalty in a tea cup.

HOLD UP.

The French have arrived and they brought Paris with em mate. Yeah. When you drink this Earl Grey as a British person something quite nice happens. The binge drinking, casual violence and desire to eat poor cuisine disappears, and you arrive in Paris on a scooter in the 60s with a baguette under your arm and a scalf around ya Gregory Peck.
Yes yes it's Earl Grey but like Earl Grey with boat shoes or, Earl Grey whilst being serenaded by Serge Gainsburg ( dam I should have put that record on) or Earl Grey in vintage corduroy flavour.
All in all I rarely drink Earl Grey these days but I always have some
for guests or the uneducated tea drinker.
This tea total Paris Earl Grey is a safe, silky cuppa that won't have Earl Grey fans too out of their comfort zones. Get it in you.
I brew strong, for 6-8 minutes, no milk or sugar. And you should do that too.
