On July 30th, the Japan Cryptocurrency Business Association (JCBA) and the Japan Cryptocurrency Exchange Association (JVCEA) submitted a request for tax reform for fiscal year 2026 to the Financial Services Agency and held a press briefing on the same day. The request included five proposed amendments, with the top priority being to change the tax rate on cryptocurrency transactions from the current comprehensive taxation (maximum tax rate of approximately 55%) to a 20% separate self-assessment taxation. There is no doubt that a lower tax rate will lead to increased trading activity.
