The Importance of 4868

In this busy tax season, one thing that many people forget about is that the April 17th deadline for this year is as much of a liquid IQ test as not smoking weed for 30 days before your job interview. There is a form that many people know about, yet too few people discuss it. It is the automatic extension form also known as 4868.

This is it. This is all you need to fill out. You can mail it in, or efile it on a program like turbotax. I don't know where the regular efile option on the IRS site is anymore. Maybe eternal september made them hide it so that people can get scammed by a variety of websites (schedule C? Let me add an 80 dollar surcharge for you).

As soon as you fill out the tax extension, you have until October to file your taxes.
