Con Dao tourism
Con Dao is an archipelago off the coast of the South, which is also a suburb of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, 97 nautical miles from Vung Tau. In addition, Con Dao (or Con Son) is also the name of the largest island in the archipelago. The name Con Dao is derived from Malay, derived from the name "Pulau Kundur" (meaning "island Bi"). Con Dao is in a favorable position on the way linking Europe and Asia, so it is soon known by Westerners. The European transliteration is "Poulo Condor" and this is also the name used in the English and French documents of Con Dao. The history of Vietnam before the 20th century is called "Kunlun Island", Khmer is "Koh Tralach". Until 1977, the new island was officially called Con Dao.
Con Dao is characterized by subtropical azure climate and is divided into two distinct seasons: the rainy season lasts from May to November and the dry season lasts from December to April. It rains at least in January. The average annual temperature is 26.9 ° C. However, May is the hottest month, and sometimes the temperature is up to 34 ° C. The Con Dao archipelago is located at the intersection of the warm ocean currents from the south and the cold ocean currents from the north.
Con Dao is located in a semicircle valley of 8-10 km in length, 2-3 km in width and about 3 m in average. The town has one face overlooking the southeastern bay, the other three are surrounded by mountains and lie in the middle of the Co Ong airport with Ben Dam port. This is where the entire economic, political and social life of the archipelago is concentrated.
