Hurry Curry Indian Food [Travel Journal 1]
authentic Indian cafeteria in west los angeles
I used to live a block down the street from this cafeteria, and was always a favorite of mine to walk with my boyfriend to grab bags of delicious authentic, and cheap, indian food. The smell of fresh basked garlic naan always filled up our small apartment and the food hugged us from the inside out.
I was nearby the other day for work, and drove by it and thought I really ought to stop by and revisit it, and so glad I did. The quality is as good as I remember, and the prices remained unchanged. I am glad you can join me for my first travel food blog and review.
eating keto while dining out
on the day I went, I was eating a ketogenic diet, which can be tricky when eating at a restaurant. A lot of my friends ask me "well, what do you order when you go out." It's simple, you order meals that are high in fat, moderate in protein, and non-starchy vegetables. Do not even risk any starch or any food that you suspect may have sugar in the sauce or recipe.
When I visited Hurry Curry, that was what I was looking for, and luckily Indian cuisine offers a rich and colorful diversity of food that are naturally ketogenic. It was hard to say no to rice and naan, but I get to indulge in all the carbs on the weekend, and the flavors of high fat dishes are so satisfying and so filling, that at the end of the meal I did not really care that much for either the naan or the rice.
location and hours
It is located at 12825 Venice Blvd [on the corner of Venice Boulevard and Beethoven Street] in Los Angeles, California. It is open seven days a week from 11 am until 10 pm
There are a couple of parking spots in the front, and plenty of side street parking. As always when driving in Los Angeles, check the parking signs, you do not want a fat ticket.
it has a big sign out front, it's hard to miss.
the food
The menu offers a variety of excellent deals and combos at a pretty good price. I got the 4 A La Carte Combo, which offers 4 picks from the bar plus naan and rice. Since I said no to the naan and rice, the nice guy offered me a fifth option :]
what makes this place special is the speed, price, and variety of fresh cooked Indian food. The menu also changes daily, so each time I come in, there is something different or new to try. Luckily, they almost always have my favorites: saag and tikka masala!
The cafeteria also has a small shop with a bunch of imported goodies such as candy, drinks, spices, and other cooking ingredients.
This is what I ordered for my lunch
^ a new favorite: mushroom tikka masala!
everything tasted so good, and it was a fireworks party in my mind!
I felt completely satisfied afterwards!
cost: 12 dollars.
dining room
They have a cute warm-toned seating area and benches that face the street, which's where I enjoyed my lunch. The place looks Indian with arcs, ceiling fans, and artwork throughout. There is also a television that plays Indian movies and music.
summary
tasty fresh home style indian cooking at a great value and cafeteria speed.
with a wide variety of keto options.
I give it 5 noms! [out of five]
YUM!! I went there a few times when I used to live in the area. I remember it being super satisfying. I might have to go back for that mushroom tikka masala because it sounds amaaaaazing! I don't think they had that back then...
By the way, love that image with the "labels" showing what each food item is. Both from a reader point of view and design wise - it's very pleasant. Hope to see more of those in the next food reviews! :D
♥️!
thank you, maybe we can have a date there if I’m around heeheee! and thanks for the feedback, I enjoyed doing this post and I have another one lined up, I have to get more consistent with posting. I just get so stressed about each blog post being so absolute and perfect, that it stops me from sharing more regularly.
I hope you enjoy the next review coming soon. :)

Oh great. I am! I’ve been interested in curry cooking since seeing all the great curry recipes on steemit, but I always feel overwhelmed at the same time. do you know how to make Japanese curry spices? That’s my favorite curry!
Japanese curry does not spice much.
So, all the recipes I cook are Indian.
If you do not mind, please see here
sorry index is japanese ,but next page is English.
Oh interesting. I assumed since you wrote in Japanese that you cooked Japanese curries as well. I’m not mad at that, Indian curries are wonderful as well!
Awesome! We were just talking about how we’ve never tried Indian food before 🤷🏼♀️ (Yes, yes, the rock we live under… I know). Does tikka masala usually come with just vegetables? If so, I’d like to try it :) nom, nom, nom, nom 😋
I wish I never had Indian food so I can experience it for the first time. I take it you’re in LA? I got another good one in mind for you, costs more than Hurry Curry, and sill a good value.
tikka masala is usually a chicken dish, but I guess you could use the sauce however you’d like to.
