When things get bad, how will you get water? Will you be ready for what is coming? Lets find out!

Here are a few simple tips on getting water and in no way are the only ways. You can research many ways to get water in a survival situation and I suggest you find out now what it will take to get it in your area!

To begin with you need to look at your situation. Do you Live in a city? The suburbs or country? Are you a homesteader or a Prepper? Either way we all need water to survive. How much you get and use will depend on your situation and the situation of those around you.
Each situation will require different answers to your water solutions when things hit the fan. In no way can I cover each and every scenario unless I break it down to several blogs. Here are some of the top ways of getting water when needed either on the go or on the homestead!

First lets cover this up front:

Things not to drink in place of water

Seawater
Blood
Urine
Alcoholic beverages
Radiator water/Unless plain water
Many more- Use common sense.

Public water sources may be an issue when things get bad. Many people that are not prepared will be gathering and setting up camp at those spots. Whether it is a water fountain or your local stream. Beware the unprepared. They will want what you have. You will need another water source.

First look for springs above the source or runoff away from the source. Separating yourself from the crowd gives you the advantage.

Find low lying areas and dig test holes. Let the holes remain for a few hours to see if any water accumulates. Wet weather dry creek beds or mountain runoff areas are great for this.

Another way is lay plastic over a hole. Place rocks at the 4 corners of the plastic and allow it to drape in the center. Place a bowl or cup in hole to catch the condensation. Weight plastic in center with small stone to pinpoint where water will drip from. The sun can help with this process.

There are many ways to retrieve water from trees and plants. Not knowing your area it would be impossible for me to cover all the ways.
Common ways are by laying out a tarp or gathering water from your tent or house roof in containers.
Always filter and boil water for at least 10 min to help kill bacteria. They do have water purification tabs to help in emergency situations but do not use these long term. Ceramic filters that are silver impregnated are some of the best for filtering.

Pre filter then filter

Get the big stuff out first.
Don't just filter. Pre filter. Run water through a bandana or cloth. If on a homestead create a filter system with sand, activated charcoal and maybe diatomaceous earth.

Best thing to do is be prepared now. Get 55 gallon drums and collect rain water off your roof. Some water is better than no water. Without water you can die after 3 days so don't put this off. I'm lucky enough to have a creek in my backyard but still I wont rely on just that! Again, research water purification and getting water in your area. Find all the local sources. Have a well if you have a homestead. Be ready for anything.

Ok so you have been waiting. My number one way to get water that no one and I mean no one is even talking about.

eva-dry-electric-midsize-dehumidifier-edv-2200.jpg

Dehumidifier> Eva Dry 2200 -- This small (The size of a toaster)unit does not have a compressor and uses a special technology to collect moisture from the air. Requires low energy to use and can easily be hooked to a small solar panel unlike the much bigger units that require way to much energy to run. These special Eva Dry units may save your life in a grid down scenario where there is no water at all except the humidity in the air. This unit is so small and lightweight but packs a pretty good punch. You can even get an adapter to run it from a car cigarette lighter. You can have water when no one else will!
Hope these ideas helped.

Wow thanks for sharing this with us really nice post

Yes indeed. Glad to be of help!

The dehumidifier is an extremely creative and novel idea! It's been pretty humid in my region so far this summer so this would come in super handy. Thanks for the information you presented here. Upvoted & resteemed!

Thank you as always brother. Yeah a regular dehumidifier draws almost as much as an AC unit which makes it really hard on your resources. If you got a couple of these small units they draw very little and with no compressor. Always nice to have a different backup plan. You never know. Get 2 --run one. Store one in your Faraday cage in case there is an EMP. LOL

Great idea. You are on your A game and I think...

lol that's funny. :)

Nice one @saved4newlife, never thought of the dehumidifier. Thanks for the tip.

Anytime! Yeah that's why I wanted to share the tip. I felt it was to good to keep to myself! Thanks for looking!

When electric goes out...that's why you put a hand pump on your well.

Exactly! But what if during a bad situation you had to bug out and leave your well? How would you handle that? Thanks for your response.

Hoping that if the SHTF I will be in my bug out spot which will have a well.

But isn't part of preparing being ready for what ifs? Glad you have a hand pump though. That's a good idea!

Fullpower UV on what I have left in the tank man LOL. Good post.

I am not sure about the water quality after passing over the coils inside, etc but I have thought about that for years and years now every time I empty mine downstairs.

Pre Barry vote, $11 -- after -- $16.11

I like your stuff man!!!! I was hoping that vote would have bumped you up to rep. 46 too but I just don't have enough in the tank left today with my votes out already LOL!

Dude you are awesome. You are the man! Thank you so much! :)

Hello saved4newlife.
I write a Steemit service project. You can participate in a beta test if you reply to this message with "@username". Replace "username" with any one steemer username and remove quotations and anythingelse from the reply. Thanks!

Yeah I would filter it a bit first. lol Oh and this one has no coils. It barely uses electric like the others! That's why its a good choice.

Crazy how it dropped from $16.11 to $9.00. That's just nuts!
