Suppoman's sketchy ICO promo gives this space a bad reputation!
With his bigger than life personality and a wicked laugh, chances are you have heard or have seen his videos up on Youtube. In the world of crypto, a space that is full of computer nerds and hopeful investors he has definitely added a lot of color in a highly volatile environment. His reputation has recently been under fire in his questionable way to get people to sign up and buy his Udemy courses, two times to be exact totaling $20 just to get his pick of his secret ICO. his practice is extremely shady and the reasons behind why he would do such a thing while claminig to be a millionaire himself through cryptocurrency as a "guru".
Before I jump in and say the positive and negatives about the guy let me first point out about public figures in general. For those of us that wants to be in front of the big screen and become that special personality that people pays attention to, there is a lot of responsibilities that comes with it. There's no difference between Youtube and TV space, although many have deemed Youtube secondary in nature compared to regular TV. However just because the platform is different that doesn't change a few fundamental things about personalities in general.
The benefits of having a following is that people in ways look up to you and wants to be like you while you are popular, the downside is that once you make a mistake the issue is usually magnified in a lot bigger manner as well. That's what part of being a TV or Youtube personality is, they would have be naive to think just because it is Youtube what applies to people with a following does not apply there.
The proponents for Suppoman says:
- He's doing content for free on Youtube and everyone gets the benefit of him sharing his success
- Charging $20 is nothing in the world of cryptospace, if you can't invest $20 you shouldn't be in this space
- Suppoman has been schilling many coins, that's not something new and if you're watching him what else do you expect?
The people against Suppoman says:
- He has a choice to get on Youtube on his own accord and no one is forcing him to share any success. He's here to promote certain things and people have a right to call him out when things are not done right
- There are teenagers who are completely new in this space and perhaps $20 from their monthly allowance is all they've got to invest. This is a decentralized space, so why the bias towards people that are less fortunate now?
- If you want to promote something, honesty is the best policy. Why be a sketchy person in the first place as a self proclaimed crypto millionaire?
I like to end this article with something a lot of cryptocurrency experts like to say, "invest only what you are willing to lose". I would use the same phrase back to them with minor changes, "do onto others as what you would like others done onto you." Youtube personalities know what they are getting into when they first hop onto Youtube, if they don't they are obviously not willing to lose what they can't in this space and in those circumstances they shouldn't be in it in the first place.
My take here may sound harsh, but that's the reality in a decentralized cryptospace every one has a right to call people out and they should. That way, this will make the space more self policed and legitimate while discouraging congestion of scams rising on the daily.
