How to start now to realize your dreams and achieve success
Almost every day, we get a glimpse of what we are capable of. We see ideas of who we want to be or what we could become.
It might be a sudden burst of inspiration for a book we've always wanted to write. It could be a wish to lose weight or a feeling that we’re unhappy with our job. We might feel a strong urge to create something of our own.
These are all important dreams. They often come knocking at our door. But before we can answer, everyday tasks grab our attention. The phone rings. The car runs out of gas. The boss gives a new task with a tight deadline. We put our dreams aside to handle the latest problem.
How can we break this cycle? How can we start living a life that matters to us instead of just reacting to crises?
Think about this: for the next 10 years, you will be doing something. Most of that will be fixing urgent problems instead of working on what truly matters.
The need to make money will often take priority over building a project that makes you proud. Wanting to lose 5 kg in a month will generally beat the goal to stay consistent with your workouts. The desire to be noticed and appreciated will usually overshadow the ability to enjoy the moment.
Yes, money is important. Sometimes, you have to put your dreams on hold to deal with immediate issues. Responsibilities are part of life. But ask yourself: how long are you ready to give up your biggest dreams to fight small fires? How long will you delay what you can do for the sake of staying the same? A year? Five years? Or even longer — the rest of your life?
A goal is different from a wish. Losing weight is a wish. Doing 100 push-ups a day is a goal. Starting a business is a wish. Finding three good clients in a month is a goal. Writing a book is a wish. Finishing the first chapter within a week is a goal.
Important things don’t feel urgent. That’s what makes them worth it. They don’t need immediate attention. They need clear focus, commitment, and steady work over time.
Stop letting your chances for success slip away. Let go of chasing mediocrity. Slowly work toward something great. Pick one big dream, set a clear goal, and take the first step.
Never leave your dreams behind.
