How Not To Get Lost In Your Losses

in #success7 years ago

Have you ever taken a bad situation and do a fine job of making it worst?
Have you ever drag yourself down deeper instead of holding or trying to pull yourself out?
The primary predictor of our likelihood to do that is our tendency to react instead of responding.
Responding, require thinking and nobody likes to do that In fact people go to great lengths to avoid doing it.

Even the brain is lazy to choose that option unless you consciously train it to work that way.
I remember doing and exam in college in one of my strong subject areas;
we were supposed to pick any 4 questions.
It was a difficult paper I was comfortable with two questions did them quickly and spent minutes fumbling over the other two questions.

I was trying to get at least half of one of them right because I was certain that I got full marks in the first two questions. Well, Academy after that early morning exam, second to last exam for the semester.
I went home feeling hopeful, went to bed. With the intention of getting up in the early hours of the morning and do some revision for the last exam.
I don’t know what on God’s earth happened in my brain, maybe the subconscious was recapping the day.
At about 12:30 in the night, I jumped out of bed rushed for my bag pulled out the test paper and behold…. one of the questions that I was totally sure of …. I totally confused, misread, misunderstood, every God almighty “mis” you can think of….. I totally whacked it. I would get below zero….lol..lol..

And boy did my mind take a downward spiral; I could not pull it together, I couldn’t revise for the next exam and as a result I whacked that one too.
So here I am playing a tournament and I allowed my loss of game 1 so to speak to cost me game 2. So I get two defeats for the price of one. I thought to myself well done Lewin, marvelous job…..

So many times we react instead of responding we allow the defeats to shut us down. So that I don’t get lost in this let me go directly to what I want you to look out for.
If you are out of work, channel the extra time you have to read, exercise, and nurture social and family relationships. Don’t let your mind and your loss pull you under and cause you to stop everything.
Take your flashcards, your books or an audio program with you, if you are stuck in the airport, in the train, in a queue. Don’t use the time to curse and complain. Invest it in a positive activity.
If you cleared your day or evening for an overtime and they bumped you off the schedule, give your mind that overtime by acting on a goal you have.
When adversities, lost, disappointments or defeats come your way ensure you deliberately force the conscious mind to progress instead of digress. What better choice do we have when we no things are bound to go wrong? We therefore have to resolve not to go wrong with them.
It is not easy because losses have a powerful emotional effect on us. But tell you what motion does affect emotion in other words you can act your way into a feeling faster than you can feel your way into acting. Don’t wait to feel like making a move, just move.
If one thing or a couple things are not going well, the wise thing to do is to grab the first thing that you can make go well and do it well. The last thing you want to do is to have an additional thing go bad that you could have avoided. Keep your composure, true champions come back from staggering defeat and win in fine style.
As they say when life gives you a lemon, make lemonade. Keep your mind in the positive. Whenever adversities come that blocks your plans ask yourself; what can I win at in the mean time until? The person who has time and energy simply has no excuse.
How pitiful would it be if you waste your prep time in self-pity and when the next opportunity comes you are caught off guard with the usual excuse of; “I was going through a lot”, I couldn’t focus. So many things were going on”, I had to take a break, my problems were too big, I didn’t have the help…..
Did those things really stand in your way or did you put them in your way? Effort gets results, excuses perpetuate problems.
Today we go with the heart of a champion…. Big…Bad…… and Bold.
