I think that many of the readers of the channel are familiar with the work "Seven Skills of Highly Effective People." Covey's book Focus. Achievement of Priority Goals "describes how to implement skills in practice.

The main theses from the book:

Time management matrix

  • The quality of life depends on understanding what is really important for us. Identify important matters among the flow of routine help the time management matrix. This is a scheme of four squares, where we single out urgent, not urgent, important and not important matters.

  • Divide the cases on the lists and concentrate on important urgent and not urgent matters. Additional time for them can be found at the expense of the two remaining squares.

Performance Pyramid

  • We can not be effective until we feel ourselves as the creators of our own lives or the perpetrators of the circumstances. It is important to understand that the fulfillment of goals depends only on us.

  • Our goals are filled with meaning, when they are based on values. Values are the lower tier of the efficiency pyramid: they help us look at life in perspective, see where our decisions and actions lead us. On the basis of values, we form goals, draw up a plan for a week and a day.

  • Goals should be considered taking into account all life roles. As a rule, we combine several of them: leader, husband, father, friend. Skew in the direction of one of the roles leads to a disbalance.

Practical assignments

  • Take time to "sharpen the saw". Devote one hour a day, or at least a few days, to reviewing your priorities and goals.

  • When making a plan for a week, choose "the biggest stones" - cases related to specific relationships and people. Watch the balance of roles.
