Meaning of SUCCESS!
We've talked before about the essential ingredients for success – the key capabilities you need to reach your goals. Things like IQ, EQ, cognitive skills, aptitude, common sense, intuition, and experience all play a part. You don't have to be a genius in every area, but they do work together.
When you think about "success," it can mean so many different things. Maybe it's landing a great job with good pay and enjoying the work. It really depends on what you want out of life. Want to be an entrepreneur? Success can help you get there. Dream of becoming a billionaire? Success can pave that path too. Even if you're an aspiring artist, novelist, athlete, or whatever your passion, success can be the key.
But to achieve any kind of success, you need a solid foundation in those core capabilities. Like I said, you don't have to be the absolute best in everything, but you need a decent level in each.
Cognitive abilities, for example, are crucial. They encompass critical and creative thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. And what about IQ and EQ? Well, IQ is definitely linked to cognitive abilities, while EQ is essential for leadership roles. Think CEOs, principals, team leaders – anyone who needs empathy, sympathy, and compassion to guide others. That's a key difference between us and other animals.
Experience is another critical factor. Without it, it's hard to develop intuition, which is so important for innovation and invention.
Aptitude is how you apply your IQ in different situations and fields. Common sense helps you navigate daily life and makes tasks easier. And intuition? That gut feeling, that sudden flash of insight. It often comes after your brain has processed information subconsciously.
A good education system should nurture these capabilities, but learning is a lifelong journey. If you stop learning and thinking, you risk losing your mental sharpness. You might find it harder to recall memories or think deeply about things.
Of course, success can also be about living a peaceful and happy life, being content with what you have. Or maybe it's about having a comfortable life where you don't worry about food, shelter, or healthcare. Maybe it's even about achieving a state of enlightenment. At the end of the day, we only take our good and bad deeds with us. Our knowledge, wisdom, experience, and capabilities – those stay behind.
Ultimately, we're all trying to make sound decisions every day, and we need some measure of success to build a good future.
