A sad sad story: The homeless man who slept opposite the stray dog [Black and White photo]

Homeless men and stray dogs. Faces of a crisis that deepens. A phenomenon that grows and becomes natural, we get used to its existence: it becomes unavoidable.

Their population grows day by day. In Greece, about 40.000 people live on the streets. There are more than 3.000.000 stray dogs. Some say that the numbers are even greater. Even in Chania, a small touristic town in Crete, the problem is severe with more than 100 people having no shelter to sleep.

This photo was taken by me on the 15th of October of 2015 in Chania, at Kotzampasi Plaza. A homeless man and a stray dog coexist on the streets, they share the same pavement. They sleep opposite each other, as if to mirror their deserted nature.

They are the rejected. Faithful comrades in loneliness, their co-existence offers fragments of feelings of comfort and warmth that are long lost.

Shouldn't we care?
