[Streemian.com] Operation 'Follow the Votes'
After weeks of development, it is my pleasure to announce yet another service offered by streemian.com.
With
- RSS feeds and
- Automatic Cross-Posting for RSS-Blogs and Reddit
already functional and running smoothly so far, we now created
Follow the Operator
This service lets you follow so called operators and support their votes with voting power. For those familiar with proxy voting from BitShares: This is the same thing, except:
- You can follow up to 5 operators
- You only proxy your voting power for posts, not witnesses
Follow the Operators
What's in for the operator
Operators that have a big crowd of agents behind them can benefit from their upvotes because they can be sure that their agents will upvote this particular post as well. Being among the first to identify great content will leave you with a higher rewards.
Note, since agents are notified over each vote of their operator, misusing this power will eventually result in agents leaving the operators behind.
What's in for the agents?
Agents provide the operators with voting power but they don't need to to this explicitly. Instead, Streemian.com automates this for the agent. This means, you can easily give your voting power to operators across the world that spot great posts posted in any time zone, even while you sleep. Since basic agents upvote posts in a random order, you will probably vote for content before others do. The better operators you pick, the more you can gain from lending your voting power.
Note, you can leave an operator at any time and follow up to 5 operators.
Why do I need to prepare my account?
Usually, new accounts on Steem come with very restricted permissions that prevent anyone from misusing your STEEM account. Only you control your account. However, Streemian.com requires posting/voting permissions to serve you. For this reasons, your account needs a special form. Either you add the streemian
user to your posting permissions if you already have an account, or you let Streemian.com create a properly formatted account for you. Only then will we be able to posting and vote on your behalf. Note: You will always have exclusive control over your funds, unless explicitly granted to streemian.com. Furthermore, you can opt-out of this feature at any time without asking for permission!
Where do I get an invitation
Just ask in the #streemian channel on slack and either ask @xeroc
for an invite or find someone how can invite your to streemian.com.
Every user has up to 10 invites to bring in friends and family.
Closed Beta
Since we currently require users to have a cli_wallet
running and to fix some minor bugs, we currently require an invitation. If you do not have a cli_wallet
installed, please refrain from asking for an invitation just yet. We are working on solutions to make this process easier for people but we are not there yet. Thanks for your understanding!
Is this open source?
No, it is not. However the foundations (
piston
) are open source and available for free to use: http://piston.rocksI know about piston, and you wrote it. I have been reviewing the code base recently. Why isn't it? Seems pretty trivial.
Would it not also be much more secure if software with this function could be run locally? Seems there is a big trust issue with a service like this.
If you want someone else to vote/post on your behalf, then you need to trust then entity. THere is no way around it.
Running to locally doesn't help you either, because you can't grow the numbers.
I can think of a distributed discovery process for agents and operators, but that still requires that others have posting/voting authority for your account.
Could individuals not run a piece of software that watches the vote stream and then votes when a specific person on a defined list votes?
Cross posting seems to be a similar issue, I actually already sketched out a program to do this.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding but it appears pretty straight forward. I only see unnecessary danger of centralizing this.
Also why are you allowing registration and sign up on a site without SSL? That is just simply reckless.
Also the SSL on https://panel.xeroc.org:4089/ is not setup properly.
And you probably should turn off tokens: Apache/2.2.22 (Debian)
Here is an exploit that works on that Apache version:

Thanks for your replies and I understand your concerns. Let me address them.
Sure, that can be done, but it requires additional efforts to be taken or an application to be run by the user. He also losses some time advantage.
As for xposting and upvoting, I think you missed a few essential points:
Apologise for that, I am working on this already!
The other issues, we have discussed on slack
looks like you have quite a few curators there for now.
Hi
please see my post and upvote it.
Thank you
Great
Hi
Test test
nice information, good job
By following operators wouldn't you be creating a bias toward certain posts rather than letting them get picked up via their natural correspondence within the site? Seems like it's creating more inequality for those good posts that get looked past.
I want an invite please :)
Please join the slack .. I give invites in private channels.
Hi @xeroc,
I have tried to join slack channel but it is not possible for the moment. Is there an alternative way to get an invitation for streemian?
Thanks in advance
@xeroc
Looking for streemian invitation code too, i already have ./cli_wallet running .
here is my email: [email protected]
