Egyptian Judge and Oil Jew Seller
Ibn Hajar rahimahullah was a great Egyptian judge of his time. He went to his workplace by trains pulled by horses or mules in a procession.
One day he took his car through an Egyptian Jew. The Jew is an oil seller. As was the custom of the oilman, the Jew was dirty. Seeing the procession, the Jewman confronted and stopped Ibn Hajar. The Jew said to Ibn Hajar, "Verily your Prophet said, 'The world is a prisoner of believers and a gentile paradise.' (Muslim) But why do you as a believer become a great judge in Egypt, then go to the place work by using a luxurious procession, and in this pleasures. As for me, who is unbelievers in suffering and misery like this. "
So Ibn Hajar replied, "I am with my state filled with luxury and the earthly sentiments when compared with the pleasures of heaven is like a prison. The suffering you are experiencing in this world is compared to the punishment of hell is like a paradise. "
Hearing the words of Ibn Hajar, the Jew and then immediately recited the shahada, "Asyhadu anla ilaha illallah. Wa asyhadu anna Muhammad rasulullah, "without thinking straight into Islam. []
