The Tortoise and The Rabbit

in #story6 years ago

There was a rabbit who is arrogant and boasted of his speedy legs, He said to all the animals that he was the swiftest one in the world. Days after days he bragged about his God-given talent, Wherever he went he challenged others to take part a race.
The animals were so tired of his teasing and the mocking-tongue languages he used along the way.
"You're such a big fat elephant, I dare you to outrun me," He said to a group of elephants standing nearby.
And to giraffe he laughed "Why your neck is so long, so are your legs but you are still the same group as other guys, a bunch of slow and failure". He carried his life just like that.
Then one day, while having fun with his friends, the slow tortoise caught his eyes, he jumped at him and said
"Hey, you! wanna have a race with me?"
He said these words not because he finally found the suitable competitor in racing. He just wanted to make fun of others, making other to run away in fear is his pleasure.
All of his friends and animals in the forest thought that there was only one way for this tortoise: running away as fast as possible.
But, up to great surprise from watching's eyes, tortoise accepted the challenged! The tortoise said with a firm voice "I CAN beat you in this race!"
"Impossible! Have you ever think of what kind of this tortoise would be, is this guy out of his mind?" The rabbit grasped his teeth so loud that even the lion run away!
Eventually, he said with a calm voice "OK, the race line is from here up to that river bank, you see it?"
The tortoise raised his head slowly to see how far it was, as a slow creature it even took him a few seconds to lifted up his heavy head and calculated the distance of his upcoming race.
The race began!
As a swift one, the rabbit dashed rapidly over tortoise's head like the wind, while running he thought to himself "There is no glory for me to win by this way, everybody knew that this tortoise was surely a loser, so it's better and more fun to let him come near at the finishing line then I will outrun him".
He did what he thought, he lied on the ground, he chased the butterflies, he slept on the grassy land. He even dreamed of his victory in this race.
Suddenly, noisy voices woke him up. He watched as tortoise taking the last few steps for finishing line. Gathering all his strength he ran, ran and ran as quick as he could.
And finally...The tortoise still lost!

Why? We are all familiar with the rabbit's arrogance, Did you ever catch a glimpse of tortoise's arrogance in this story? What in the world did this tortoise think he'd be as he thought he could beat the rabbit?
Well, it seems not a happy ending nor the normal ending just as traditional stories, doesn't it?
A moral lesson
I disprove nor endorse the arrogance or disrespect in any way. We should know our strength and weakness.
Hope we don't define our strength as the swiftness in this tortoise!
