Dog and other animals
There was a time some animals became disenchanted with Dog. They hated and accused him of arrogance and being full of himself. They said he was boastful, noisy and above all, always opposing their views.
However, it was clear to an unbiased observer that the main factor underlaying this hatred was because Dog was a strong, smart and clever animal.
But, these animals, driven by jealousy planned to deal a hard blow to Dog. They managed to convince many animals to speak ill of Dog, and so, in a meeting, they accused Dog of wrong doing, and by majority opinion, it agreed that Dog would be sold out to a known enemy who will simply eliminate him.
But, there was the lone voice of Guinea Fowl who countered this decision on the premise that once you sold someone, you have sold his dignity and prestige. So, she advised against selling Dog. Yet, the majority had its way. This was why Dog was sold to a man.
Unfortunately to the animals, the man that bought Dog was a professional hunter, and Dog was quick to let him know how useful he (Dog) would be in hunting expeditions.
Thereafter, whenever the hunter went out to hunt, Dog led the way, and as soon as animals saw them, they quickly ran and hid in their usual refuge. But, their strategy failed because Dog already knew all their hiding places, and simply went and chased them out for the hunter to shoot them down.
The host of the animals lamented the onslaught they were facing in the new dispensation, because things had turned out for the worse. Guinea Fowl cried and sang a song:
"Let no one sell Dog
What did Dog do?
They've killed all our folks
He has sucked the marrow in our bones dry
A result of hatred against a strong one
I said... I said... I said it."
At a time, the animals sent an emissary to Dog, pleading for a truce. But, Dog replied they had already crossed the Rubicon. He said his lot was far better in the house of the hunter where he was treated with a variety of dishes, including leftover foods and choice bones.
This is how dogs started living with human beings, serving as hunting expedition aids to man.
Lessons: 1. The majority is not always right.
