Playing With Fire

in #story8 years ago

In my previous article about my brother I spoke of how Superman was his idol. Not to long after he became the biggest fan of MacGyver.

The way MacGyver could turn anything into a bomb through knowledge science intrigued his young mind. So he traded his Superman costume for a swiss army knife and instead of jumping off buildings settles for setting them on fire.

While visiting my aunt, my brother and his 4 cousins got hold of some matches and hiding under the bed started lighting them. For a while everything went well... Then the bed caught fire with all of the kids underneath it. The parents could smell the smoke and before anything could go horribly wrong the kids where removed from under the bed and the fire was put out.

You would think that after this experience he would have stayed away from fires. Wrong. Instead his fires became bigger and more difficult to put out.

I remember the one story he told about one of these endeavors. My cousin Konrad was visiting. Now Konrad and Jan were as thick as thieves and were always in trouble after being silent for a while. My dad had this very large compost heap in the back corner of the yard. Jan was trying to show off with a petrol bomb and it ended up setting the entire compost heap in fire. Flames so high it reached the top branches of a very large pine tree close by. The tree was large enough to do serious damage to the apartments across the road. So like good young boys they tried putting out the flames with water. This caused the fire to grow even bigger and realizing that it was out of their control they called for help.

Not long after the above mentioned incident Jan had made another petrol bomb, however this time the bottle he used had a tiny hole and left a small stream that led to the garage where all the cars were parked. As soon as Jan lit it he realized his mistake as he saw flames traveling to the garage. He quickly ran into the house to inform my parents of what was happening and told them that the cars were going to explode.

Needless to say he was never allowed around my dad's petrol supply again. Unable to cause havoc by setting things on fire he opted to taking brand new technological things apart. And they say parenthood is fun (haha).
