FEEDING THE HUNGRY GETS ME TROUBLE
Hello! I'm three years old. At least that's what my mommy told me. I don't remember anything before now, so it must be true. Mommy says she is the one who takes care of me, bathes me, feeds me and puts me to bed. I guess she knows, but it is like I just woke up cause today is the first day of being aware of anything.
I live in a house with a living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. I sleep in the bedroom with mommy and daddy, I know cause it's where I woke up this morning in my baby bed!
I gotta start using that other bedroom soon, cause mommy said we are getting a new baby in about 6 months. I don't know why! Why do we need a new baby?? Don't think I'm gonna like that, but mommy said it would give me someone to play with!
Daddy goes off someplace called work everyday, so I don't see much of him. When he comes home, he is tired, but plays with me a little before he goes off to bed.
After a lot of sleeps and wake ups, I find my aunt in the house with me. I ask her where mommy and daddy are and she tells me they went to pick up the new baby. I think I'm jealous!
When they come home, mommy is holding this thing wrapped up in a blanket and they show it to me. Mommy says "this is your new baby sister." I'm not impressed cause it has closed eyes, no teeth, can't walk or talk! All it does is sleep, so how am I gonna play with it?
Now it's my job to watch this baby sister in case she cries or needs a bottle or a dry diaper. I also got kicked out of my baby bed so she could sleep there. Now I sleep in a room all by myself, which is a little scary!
Well, I try to give this sister a lot to eat, so she will grow bigger and we can play. I try to stuff bread down her throat and end up in trouble for that. How was I supposed to know she couldn't chew bread????
She grows for about three years and she becomes more aware of things too. Now I can drag her around the neighborhood with me to play with all my friends. I've also gotten bigger and stronger!
My daddy works for a bread company, so he brings home lots of bread, jelly rolls, donuts, angel food cakes and other goodies! We never go hungry because of this.
One day, I got the idea that my sister and I should share all our food. I think I heard the priest in church say something about feeding the hungry. Ok, so, I figured we could start with the birds out back. I stuff a loaf of bread in my sister's arms and I grab one, then we head out the back door.
Crumbling up bread and throwing it on the ground, we are having a great time when mommy comes out the back door. She doesn't like what we are doing, so I'm in trouble again! Sitting in the corner is not much fun, especially when I'm the only one blamed! Mommy says I'm older and should know better.
That plan didn't work, so the next time I think about it, we grab some jelly rolls and go down the street looking for friends. We find them and start sharing with our friends. With jelly smeared all over our faces, we notice mommy coming after us. Here I am in trouble once more, I don't understand! That corner is beginning to be boring!
Sister and I can't go down the street anymore now, so we are in the front yard playing. My friends are standing at the wire fence talking to us and asking for more treats. I go in the house and sneak some bread outside. I hand some to my sister and tell her to start rolling bread in little balls. We poke them through the fence holes and the kids stuff them in their mouths!
Oh no, here comes mommy! She tells me, she's gonna tell daddy! Well, I guess feeding the hungry kids is all over for me. I'm punished again!!
Hope you enjoyed this memory written from the musings of a small child! At least that's the effect I was trying for. By the way, I still like to feed the hungry!!

This story made me smile! I think if I were one of those kids I'd give you the nickname Jelly Roll Girl!
Ha! Fitting name, since my mom's nickname was "Jelly"! Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!
