Can practise hinder creativity?
As a obedient student in school I always believed that practise makes man perfect and I followed it religiously. But I used to ask myself does it really make one perfect always?
After so many years I realised that practise does help a person become perfect, but only if it is done correctly. I used to always practice the same problems and questions over and over again. I used to solve the same maths problems again and again instead of solving newer and challenging problems. I used to sometimes feel over-practise does not make me smart over time but sometimes dumb too. The reason I was afraid to spend time on solving different problems rather than the regular text book problems was due to the fear that I might get low marks in exams if I don't practice or pay attention to regular problems.
Practise is required to hone skills but it is also important to know how practise needs to be done. Doing it the wrong way could restrict one's ability to think out of box and hinder creativity. Allowing one's creativity and ability to develop is much more important than scoring marks.
