Happy Easter!

In the Christian religion, with Easter we celebrate life, hope and freedom. New life that was given as a sign by Jesus, who arose from the dead and according to religious followers the belief was that it is a sign that men kind was forgiven for their sins. Sins like betrayal and bloodshed and that they now could follow Jesus in life after death.

As a young child, the only thing I remember from this fest every year was searching for Easter eggs, eat a lot of chocolate Easter bunnies, going to church and admiring the birth of little “chicks” at the local farm.

Why do we really celebrate it? lets take a look at the events that happened in the days before and led up to the first day of Easter.

-1- Palm Sunday
Sunday, seven days before Easter is symbolised by the great entree of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem. This Sunday marks the start of the great silent week.

-2- Monday in the great silent week
This day is marked by the curse of the fig tree in Jerusalem by Jesus and the cleansing of the temple. According to beliefs there was a relation between these events with Jesus demonstrating his criticism to the ways God was worshiped in the temple.

-3- Tuesday in the great silent week
Jesus leaves Jerusalem. On the olive mountain he tells his disciples about his vision of the end of the world and his own resurrection.

-4- Wednesday in the great silent week
Judas goes to the high priests with a bag of 30 silver coins. Judas plans to sell out Jesus.
Jesus sees his own crucifixion coming.

-5- Holy Thursday
On holy Thursday Jesus was having what is called the last supper with his disciples. He was washing the feet of his followers, which was very unusual. At night Judas betrays Jesus which is symbolised with the famous “kiss”.

-6- Good friday
Jesus is crucified in the morning and dies in the afternoon. After the betrayal Judas commits suicide. Before sunset Jesus was buried. Good Friday is called good because it is believed that Jesus kept forgiving his torturers and kept loving.

-7 - Silent Saturday
This day was a day of silence and mourning as the body of Jesus lay in the grave.

-8– First day of Easter
Jesus ressurects from the dead. The first day of Easter is a celebration of this day and falls on the first Sunday after full moon in spring time.

Christians worldwide celebrate the two days of Easter which are in the religion actually more important than Christmas. However less regards is given to it.

Christmas marks the birth of Jesus while Easter marks his resurrection, thereby giving salvation to the world and showing his total devotion to god both in life and afterlife.

Still during this period people usually have public holidays in most of the European countries at least. So if you are celebrating, happy easter holidays!

Thank you @mdrakibhasan. Glad you like it.

you captured the essence of Easter in this article.
you vividly reminded me of how we were told these stories in Sunday school at the church and moral instruction at school.
.....................Easter ought to be more important among the Christians but Christmas has more dominance.

The truth about Eater is a lie. Here is why. Just about all Catholic rituals like easter is to welcome the antichrist. They are taken from pagan celebrations. Emperor Constantine and Christmas. Here is where the name Easter comes from. Careful what you celebrate it could be a trick. Spread love and God bless

@johnbcheffin12, thanks for your comment. The article is based on records from the old testaments and bible which have been passed on for thousands of years. Ofcourse everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions.

None of what your talking about is from the Old Testament. The new Testament ya. What i was talking about is the Easter egg and how this day has changed to something not about Christ but about sin and welcoming in the devil or his son
I will leave you with this
"desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm."
1st Timothy chapter 1.
