A Star Wars Story’s
Solo: A Star Wars Story is going to give us a view of Han Solo’s early days, presumably before his weatherbeaten, mistrustful pirate persona took root. That, of course, means someone has to do him dirt, which is probably gonna be the major conflict of Solo: A Star Wars Story when that launches on May 25. First, they gotta get a team together for their big heist, which looks like some kind of a Great Train Robbery in space.
Yet, whether it’s a handful of trash in a game of sabacc, a showdown with some robust, heavily armed individuals on a desert plain, or a business opportunity with Woody Harrelson (as Tobias Beckett, a new character and Solo’s mentor figure), Han has a good feeling about all of it. We’ll see how that really pays off. Billed as a “space western” it’s probably a good bet that Solo: A Star Wars Story is gonna disabuse both Han (Alden Ehrenreich), Lando (Donald Glover) and Chewie (Joonas Suotamo) of a lot of their notions about the galaxy.
The trailer is noteworthy in that previous trailers haven’t featured Ehrenreich speaking much at all, leading some to suspect that the flick’s marketers are covering for a weak performance. This spot seems to be a deliberate answer to those rumors.
But it looks like we might get to see the infamous card game where Han wins the Millennium Falcon. I’m also curious as to “what you pulled” — Lando’s cryptic greeting in 1980’s Empire Strikes Back, might really reference. Maybe we find out here.
If you’re curious where this story exists along the Star Wars timeline and canon, Del Rey Books published a timeline back in February to help clear that up.
